They call me “Vern.”

My name is Veronica, but my friends call me “Vern.” Born in Little Rock, Ark., I am currently pursuing my doctorate in Communication and Media studies at the University of Memphis. I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Graphic Communication, minor in Fine Arts Graphic Design, and in 2016 with my Master of Science in Mass Communication, both from Arkansas State University.

I spent three years in my master’s program instead of the typical two because I was heavily dedicated to my career at Camfil. I chose to focus my research on Strategic Communication, Integrated Marketing Communication and Social Media Marketing in order to directly apply my findings to my various roles during my seven year tenure within the corporate communication setting. When I started in corporate communications for Camfil, I was only a graphic designer. I eventually worked my way to Global Communications Officer where I was relocated to Stockholm, Sweden. Graduating with my master’s degree opened up a fresh world for my career in communication. I first took on a part-time adjunct instructor role at Arkansas State University teaching Desktop Publishing and Publication Design, and shortly after completing the course, I was offered my promotion to Camfil’s headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. I lived in Europe for two years and moved back home to Arkansas in 2019.

I have now moved towards a career in academia. After teaching as a part-time adjunct instructor for Arkansas State University, I began my doctoral program at University of Memphis. My research interests are situated in social media communication and graphic communication with a critical cultural lens.

I encourage you to take a look at my online portfolio to see not only what I’ve accomplished during my time in corporate communications, but also my freelance work including local business logos and branding, as well as stationery for events and personal correspondence. On the other side of this website, you will learn about my role as an academic and my passion to become a well-rounded educator and researcher within my camp.

Finally, it’s nice to meet you! Tack tack (that’s thank you in Swedish),

Vern
